Lillie Keenan achieved more at a young age than many riders dream of in a lifetime. Winning at ten. Individual gold at sixteen. From the outside, it looked like success came early and easily.
But that is not the full story.
In Episode 10 of Inside the Mind, Lillie speaks with me openly about the pressure that came with being successful so young. She shares the moments where she felt she did not deserve what she had, where one mistake felt unbearable, and where she isolated herself instead of allowing people in.
What stands out in this conversation is how honest Lillie is about the cost of constantly trying to prove yourself. She did not need to be pushed harder. She needed to find her way back to trust – trust in herself, her instinct, and the feeling that had always been part of her riding.
She also speaks about vulnerability, comparison, social media, and the importance of building a life in the sport that feels fulfilling, not only successful. That distinction matters. Because results can be wonderful, but they cannot be the only place we look for our worth.
Lillie’s story shows that strength is not always about holding everything together. Sometimes it is about being brave enough to be honest, to let people in, and to remember that the only person you truly need to prove anything to is yourself.
